Scott Taebel represents clients nationally regarding a broad range of regulatory compliance matters including false claims, anti-kickback- and Stark-related concerns. He serves as the primary Compliance Counsel for many of the firm’s clients. Mr. Taebel works with clients regarding investigations coordinated through numerous federal and state enforcement agencies, including Main Justice, United States Attorney Offices, the Office of Inspector General, the Federal Bureau of Investigations, the Securities and Exchange Commission and Medicaid Fraud Control Units. Many of these investigations affect multiple providers in many different jurisdictions across the country. Mr. Taebel also assists clients regarding self-disclosures made to the Office of Inspector General or the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and voluntary refunds of overpayments submitted to Medicare contractors and State Medicaid agencies. He further regularly counsels firm clients regarding the functions of their corporate integrity programs, including coordinating internal investigations of compliance related concerns, recommending corrective action, reviewing program effectiveness and providing compliance education and training of provider staff and Board members. Mr. Taebel also provides guidance to clients regarding joint ventures and affiliations and other hospital/physician relationships, including recruitment, billing and payment and contracting matters. In 1994, Mr. Taebel argued a Medicare reimbursement appeal before the United States Supreme Court. He is a frequent presenter on health care compliance-related topics.
